Commentary |
According to Proctor's autobiography this work was modeled in the fall of 1887 in wax and a plaster cast was made. The work was then remodeled and completed in Paris, in late 1893 or early 1894. The museum's statue bears the date 1893. Proctor exhibited versions of this work at the Paris Exposition Universelle 1900, where it won a gold medal, and the Buffalo Pan-American Exposition 1901 (cat.#1638). |
