Commentary |
War club is missing from right hand. Despite this cast's marking as #1, this may not be the first casting of the second version. That may actually be the Smithsonian American Art Museum's version which was cast in Brussels during the winter of 1927-1928. Proctor, when he returned from Europe in the spring of 1928 (contrary to what I say on p. 89 of Wildlife and Western Heroes), settled in Wilton, CT and probably returned to work with the Gorham Foundry at that time. So this could be simply the first casting that Gorham made of the second version of Pursued cast in lost wax by Gargani. PH |
