Commentary |
Proctor did this work for his Rinehart Prix de Paris Scholarship. He exhibited a large version at the Paris Exposition 1900, where it won a gold medal, and the Buffalo Pan-American Exposition 1901 (cat. #1634).
"Note the number underneath which indicates this was #4 of a total of 6 donated by George Pratt to the Museum. The other number is the same on all 6 donated and I believe is the date of donation-November 9 of 1904."--PPC . This is probably a Thiebaut Foundry cast produced in Paris as the base compares favorably to two known casts from that foundry at the Stark Museum and the Tacoma Art Museum. |
